Kent Based firm C&M Plant put their new Scarab Mistral to work on the Lee Tunnel Project.
Kent based firm C&M Plant have recently taken delivery of a new Scarab Mistral road sweeper. The machine will be spending the first part of its life working on the Lee Tunnel project in South East London. The £635m tunnel will tackle discharges from London’s largest CSO at Abbey Mills Pumping Station in Stratford. The four-mile tunnel will run beneath the London Borough of Newham from Abbey Mills to Beckton.  The Scarab Mistral has been built with heavy duty site work in mind and C&M Plant have specified heavy duty suction nozzles to be fitted along with an overhead suction boom as well as a powerful high pressure water system and to ensure the vehicle is compliant on every site it has been fitted with a radar system, LED beacons all-round and CCTV system with cameras placed around the vehicle for complete visibility, the new machine will sit nicely back at the C&M plant alongside their other Scarab Merlin XP purchased in 2010.

Martin Woodgate owner of C&M said “as well as the product being built to our requirements one of the main reasons I chose Scarab over the competition was due to the excellent after-sales support I get from the Scarab Team” after speaking to the sweeper operator on site, he has commented that the machine is outperforming any machine he had previously used and the control system was easy to use and gave great feedback via the large colour display.”

A Scarab Magnum Unidrive for Caerphilly.
Located at the southern end of the Rhymney Valley in South Wales, bordering the City of Cardiff and County of Monmouthshire, Caerphilly County Borough Council has recently taken delivery of a new Scarab Magnum Unidrive on Daf LF 15 tonne chassis, It directly replaces their previous seven year old Scarab Magnum which provided such sterling service. It's easy to see why the Magnum was chosen again with a superb 7.5 ton payload, 1800litres of water and a 7.2 metre hopper capacity.

The Magnum Unidrive has a power take off system with pumps fitted to the back of the engine providing the necessary hydraulic power needed to drive the sweeper, allowing operator's to start and stop sweeping on the move at the touch of a single button. This, allied to the nine speed gearbox means the Magnum can function at very low speeds without having to use the clutch. Provided by Gulliver's Truck Hire Ltd, it joins a fleet of two Scarab Merlin XP truck mounted sweepers and three Scarab Minor compacts, all tasked with keeping clean the borough's 106 sq miles.

Pictured standing by the new sweeper is Caerphilly's main Magnum operator, Neil Smallman. Operator training was undertaken for Neil and several of his colleagues by Scarab's trainer Micky Roots .'

Scarab demonstrator retires to Bournemouth.
Bournemouth Borough Council have just taken delivery of an ex-demonstration Scarab Merlin XP on a DAF LF45 7.5 ton chassis that has spent most of its life travelling the country showcasing the merits of Scarab single engine technology.

Bournemouth B.C having used sweepers both larger and smaller then the Scarab in the past found they needed a truck-mounted sweeper that could access some of the narrower, tighter streets and avenues the borough is famed for, but still have the cleaning performance of a larger machine;  For this reason the Merlin XP was chosen as it was able to tick all of those boxes. Being an ex-demonstration model the XP is fitted with many optional features including dual sweep, sweep and wash, high pressure full width front spray bar, boost spray bars in front of the suction boxes, a triple camera system with spilt screen and many other extras too; in fact just about everything.

Key to the continued success of the single engine hydrostatic Merlin XP is its ability to maximise payload by utilising the powerful chassis engine to supply all the sweeper functions instead of using an auxiliary engine, giving the benefits of increased performance, better fuel consumption, less pollution and lower noise, all to the advantage of the operators, residents' and numerous visitors to Bournemouth alike.'
